About 194 delegates gathered at the Roswell Street Baptist Church on Saturday to hold the annual Cobb County Republican Convention. During the convention which was led by convention chairman Randy Evans, delegates hard from state and national elected officials, adopted resolutions and elected delegates to the District and State Convention, and chose new officers for the coming election cycle.

Lt. Governor Casey Cagle was the first of several elected officials to speak, and was followed by Cobb County Chairman Sam Olens.
Sam Olens spoke to the fact that Cobb County is not in deficit, has had no furloughs or layoffs, and has not raised the millage rate (currently at 9.6), or cut any government services. They have been able to do this with smart government, delaying merit pay, instituting an 18 month hiring freeze, and curtailing planned capitol outlays .
Sam Olens was followed by Congressman Phil Gingrey, State Senator and candidate for Lt. Gov. David Schafer, State Senator John Wiles, and State Senator Judson Hill.
The following resolutions were adopted by the Party as presented by Barry Paulk of the resolutions committee:
1. Resolution for Gun Cary Rights
2. Resolution for the Sanctity of Human Life
3. Resolution for the Acknowledgement of Parental Rights
4. Resolution for States Rights
5. Resolution for the Endorsement of Sue Everhart for State Chair of the Georgia State GOP.
Phil Daniell of the Credentials Committee certified that there were 444 delegates and 6 alternates elected to the Cobb GOP County Convention of which 192 delegates and 2 alternates actually attended.
Congressman Tom Price (6th Congressional District), Chairman of the House Republican Study Committee, then spoke to the party faithful. He was followed by State Majority Leader Senator Chip Rogers and State Insurance Commissioner and candidate for Governor John Oxendine.
The Current GOP County Chair then acknowledged 1st Vice Chair Bob Koncerak for his service to the party. Koncerak is leaving Cobb County and relocating to Gwinnett.
The following list of candidates was elected without opposition by acclamation:
1. Scott Johnson – Chairman
2. Claire Waldron – 2nd Vice Chair
3. Peggy Henderson - Secretary
4. Lynn Askea – Assistant Secretary
In the contested races Billie Dendee defeated Kyle Coates for Assistant Treasurer and Darryl Wilson defeated Fred Elrod for 1st Vice Chair.
The convention adjourned around 1:30 PM
