Tuesday, January 26, 2011 - State Representative Bobby Franklin, staunch conservative of the GA general assembly, was found dead in his home this morning by police who were called by a family friend who had stopped by his residence to check up on him when he had failed to show for church service on Sunday. Although the cause of death is not currently identified, Franklin had complained of chest pains on Friday.
Bobby was first elected as State Representative for the 43rd district in 1996 and represented my area of Cobb County. He was a hard core conservative who advocated for Christian values, the right to life, and fiscal conservatism. Although he often drew fire for his far right views, he was credited with reaching across the aisle and helping to reach a compromise during the bitter Georgia State Flag debate several years ago. Franklin served on the Banking Committee and the Judiciary Committee, among others.
I will miss seeing Bobby at the GOP breakfasts on the 1st Saturday of the month and seeing his pickup truck in the driveway just down the road.
